Shimla being one among the place crowded by tourists, the city has a high percentage of income from hotels. Shimla was the former summer capital of the British rule in India and is now the Capital city of Himachal Pradesh. Major attractions in Shimla
- Shimla has the largest natural ice skating place in South Asia. The ice skating season is usually from December to February.
- The Kalka-Shimla railway line built during the British period is also a major tourist attraction for its historical importance. This line is a UNESCO world heritage site adding to the importance.
- The mall is the shopping place in Shimla which exhibits the fine arts of Shimlaites such as beaded jewelry, wooden carvings made into beautiful boxes, gifts etc, embroidery, blankets from sheep wool, leather products like belts, purses, etc.
- There are various temples making the visit a pilgrimage one. Some are Jakhu temple, the temple of Lord Hanuman, Tara Devi temple, the temple of Goddess Tara Devi, Kali Bari, the temple of deity Kali, Sankat Mochan, the temple of Hanuman, St. Mary’s church, etc.
- Other places with nature’s beauty worth visiting are the seven hills, the Glen, Annandale, Sanctuary, etc.
- The other places with historic heritage are the viceregal lodge, scandal point, Lakkad bazaar, Rothney castle, Shimla museum, etc.
